Full-Arch Dental Implants Commack

Achieve a Strong, Sturdy, and Beautiful Smile

In some cases, it’s more practical to address extensive tooth loss by fixing a denture in place than to replace each tooth individually. Full-arch dental implants on Long Island allow a lifelike dental restoration to be securely mounted on only four strategically placed dental implants. This eliminates many of the inconveniences that come with traditional dentures, such as slipping and jawbone erosion, while creating a lifelike and durable restoration with superior chewing force.

How Do Full-Arch Dental Implants Work?

Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed in the jawbone. These posts fuse with their surrounding bone structure through the natural process of osseointegration. Full-arch dental implants (sometimes known as All-on-4 dental implants or teeth-in-a-day) require four implants to be strategically placed at the thickest points in the jaw so they can provide optimal support. The posterior implants located in the back of the mouth are placed at 45-degree angles to maximize their stability. The denture is then secured to the implants using abutment pieces, resulting in a comfortable and functional set of teeth that should never shift out of place.

Am I a Candidate for Full-Arch Dental Implants?

Most patients who have lost all of the teeth on at least one arch can be excellent candidates for our full-arch dental implants. If you aren’t ready to receive full-arch dental implants yet, you may be able to become a suitable candidate later after undergoing restorative treatments or bone grafts to clear up infections and reinforce your bone density.

However, many patients who would need bone grafts for traditional implant dentures may not need them for full-arch dental implants due to the stability provided by the posterior implants being placed at 45-degree angles.

Benefits of Full-Arch Dental Implants

Full-arch dental implants offer a range of remarkable benefits, such as:

  • Being permanently fixed in the mouth so you can clean them like you would real teeth
  • Renewed support for the facial muscles and skin to create a revitalized, more youthful appearance
  • Restoring more chewing power so you can enjoy all the foods you love
  • Preventing jawbone erosion that can lead to unstable teeth

Full-Arch Dental Implants vs. Traditional Dental Implants

Full-arch dental implants (also known as All-on-4 implants) differ from traditional implant dentures in several key ways:

  • Fewer implant posts need to be placed
  • Not requiring bone grafts in many cases
  • Dentures are placed on the same day that you receive your implant surgery, allowing you to enjoy your new smile right away

Full-Arch Dental Implants FAQs

Does Dental Insurance Cover Full-Arch Dental Implants?

Coverage for dental implant procedures, including full-arch dental implants, can vary significantly from policy to policy. Some plans cover parts of the process, like preliminary treatments and the final restoration. However, it is best to go over your benefits ahead of time so that you don’t run into any surprises. We would be happy to help you with this process, so if you have any questions or concerns regarding your plan, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Does Getting Full-Arch Dental Implants Hurt?

Many patients are hesitant to commit to treatment because they are worried that the procedure will be painful. We will always do everything we can to help you feel as comfortable as possible in the dental chair. Before your procedure begins, the area will be numbed with a local anesthetic. The jawbone doesn’t have very many nerve endings either. Ultimately, you shouldn’t feel a thing during your procedure. You may experience some soreness afterward, but this can be managed with OTC pain relievers.

How Long Does the Full-Arch Dental Implant Procedure Take?

Everyone’s case is a little bit different, but on average, it takes between two and four hours for each arch to be placed. A lot of the time, patients are able to leave the practice with a temporary set of teeth. Once the jaw has completely healed, you will be able to return to the practice to get your permanent set of replacement teeth.

Will I Be Able to Remove My New Implant Denture?

With full-arch dental implants, your denture is fixed in place. It can only be removed by a dental professional.
